People with Aphasia helping each other to become independent, communicate with other Aphasic people and overcome Aphasia together

Disability Benefits

Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance (DLA and AA).
DLA and AA are probably the two most important benefits for people with any sort of longer-term illness or disability, such as Aphasia. They are ‘extra’ money for people who don’t manage ‘well’ when left to their own devices – either because of difficulties looking after themselves, communicating and socialising, or because of some sort of ‘risk’.

So what's the difference between AA and DLA?

Basically very little. The major differences are that they serve different age groups, and rather illogically lack of help with ‘mobility’ for older people.

Each benefit has a qualifying period: under 65 can qualify after 3 months. Over 65 qualify after 6 months before they can be paid.
